I have one thing to add to what Gary and others have said about writing in
art. I am an educator and artist who uses writing in my paintings. It is a
very important way of expressing myself. As a young student, I fell in love
with the written word and with the visual arts. I never knew the two could be
combined until later in life. Many of my students are also interested in
Graphic design, where writing is also important.
If students further their art education in college it will be important that
they are able to communicate both visually and in writing. Art history,
Aesthetics and Criticism are all subjects included in my art class-how can
they not write?
