Just a couple of thoughts about writing in an art class.

As an adult artist, after more than twenty years of silence, I began to
write. The computer gave me the opportunity to correct errors without
using up all of the trees for paper on a typewriter. Having a verbal
voice has added a great deal to my life and to my artwork.

In schools, the word oriented people are usually those who control budget
and curriculum decisions. In the outside world (outside of education) the
word oriented people are the managers etc. It seems to me that the twenty
years I spent only trying to communicate visually really lacked some of
the life qualities I now enjoy.

Students do need to communicate in a variety of ways, not limited to
artwork. Any help or experience they get in an art class can only improve
their skills and help them access control over their lives.

Just one artist's opinion for the day,
Gary LaTurner
