I have to agree here. Artists and art students should be able to communicate
orally and in writing about what they do. Also, it strengthens/reinforces
their learning. It is not like you're asking them to write a dissertation. I
think saying that art class should be one place they don't have to write is
equivalent to them asking me when I correct their more glaring grammatical
errors why I do that in Art class. My response is that, " no matter what form
of communication we are using, oral language, art, sign language, etc., we
should use the good forms of construction so that we can understand each
other." then I go into that pride of mother tongue thing. :-))
