We did slab clay castles. They drew the castle first, to get
their designs down. Then they used a slab of white clay and cut
parts out, made windows that stayed open, some had drawbridges,
rose windows, etc. Drying was a small challenge, but even the
open drawbridge came out okay. These were glazed and hung on
Also along that vein, learning about Medieval times, we are
doing Medieval self-portraits. Drawing themselves as a knight
or lord or lady, etc. Then painting with tempera. We are
focusing on color mixing and shading with the paint. They even
had to mix up their skin tones. Turning out pretty cool, I just
hope they are all done before May 27!!
