Sandy,
Our PTA did a great one at the teacher luncheon. They used
old jars of any sort, sponge painted them in a creamy white and
pink, then they glued a flower off of some wallpaper or wrapping
paper and covered it with mod podge (white glue would work,
too). These had a candle cup (one of the ones that looks like a
tiny terra cotta pot but it's glass) that sat down inside the
jar. The rim of the jar held the candle cup at the top edge of
the jar. Then they had a candle in it. Or you could just put
the candle (a tea light, actually) in the jar, or just
flowers. Anyway, they looked really professional, and with a
few kids you could knock 'em out in an hour or so.
