Pie plate stepping stones

Had a great idea to make pie plate stepping stones for a garden. I thought
I would take sac-crete and pour that into disposable pie tins. Once this
has started to set up, I thought I would press mosaic tiles and/or colored
glass into the concrete.
I think this will work but was wondering if the tiles or glass would stay
put or would they have to be glued in. Has anyone done this or does anyone
has ideas or suggestions before I get knee deep in concrete?
If I can get this to work, I was thinking of doing it as an end of the year
project with some of my students. There is discussion of creating a garden
in our courtyard. What a beautiful addition from the art department!
