MS schedule

Can anyone out there give me their educated opinion on the following
schedule that is currently being designed for me by the "School
Improvement Committee". I have some reservations about its efficacy and
would like some experienced feed back.

My schedule reads as 2 classes split between 7&8th as an elective. Each
student will choose 4 electives out of 6 or 7 choices.
Band students will switch at the semester (1/2 way) so they can choose 1
semester of electives.
Other elective choices will be:
gym
outdoor living
careers
oceans
creative writing
journalism
drama

What do the rest of you do?
Because some of the above choices aren't graded, I feel they might not
take it seriously
I don't like 7 & 8th graders mixed together. 8th grade boys are a
handful and disrupt the generally good 7th grade classes.
Does anyone else feel this way?

How do you feel about 7th and 8th graders not taking any art, if that is
their choice?
