Gaugin and van Gogh painted each other.
Linda in Michigan
hi fiona,
i got your response to the above a while back but have been so busy i
didn't have time to check my own info. in the meantime i've lost your
letter so had to get this out of the archives. at long last i've come up
with part of the answer.
i have a book called Van Gogh Self-Portraits by Pascal Bonafoux ISBN:
1-55521-471-1 which was probably remaindered at Borders 7 or 8 years
ago. on p. 134 is a picture of "Van Gogh Painting Sunflowers" by Paul
Gaugin, 1888. it's from the van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. the book also
contains letters related to the pictures and there is one from Gaugin to
Theo about the incident following his presentation of the painting to
Vincent.
if you want this image and can't find the book, i would be willing to
color copy and send it to you for the cost.
i was mistaken about van Gogh painting Gaugin - there is a
self-portrait of Gaugin in the same chapter which, in my mind's eye, i
had attributed to van G.
hope this helps you.
