My freshman year at Virginia Commonwealth U, all art students, no matter what
the prospective field, took the same foundation subjects: 4 credits of drawing
(lots of figure drawing), 5 credits of basic design, 4 credits of art history,
4 credits of English (grammar and composition). I say "credits" because of
course, it had nothing to do with the amount of time you spent on topic. I
think the program was very wise. Remember, learning to draw doesn't have
anything to do with accuracy, it has to do with seeing and translating. And
just cause you're an artist doesn't mean you don't need to be able to
communicate in English.<g>
