I've been subbing art these last weeks of the school year. Wether the
students and I have a productive day depends largely on what the regular
teacher has planned. The worse experience I've had was when a teacher left
"free-drawing" as the activity of the day. Now it may work with older
students but with the fifth and second graders I was in charge of, it was not
productive at all. "What are we suppose to draw Mrs. B?....I can't draw
anything!....Here, I'm done (with 3 little skwiggles in the middle of the page
and 30 minutes of class left). I'm not unskilled at getting the students to
focus their energies, but "free-drawing" made for a challenging day!
