Hi Gail,
We use Skutt kilns at the studio and they have been great. We have an older
model that is not automatic and a newer one that is automatic.

I really like the automatic one. It's so nice to just program the kiln and
not worry about remembering to turn up those switches every couple of hours.

The venting system is a must! The toxic fumes you don't see can have
harmful side effects. The venting system is helpful in reducing the amount
of fumes in your firing environment. We use an, "Envirovent" on our
automatic Skutt. We also have a separate kiln room so people are not
constantly exposed to noxious air pollutants.

Definitely go with the automatic programmable kiln!
