Well as far as substitutes are concerned in art, I have them usually give the students at the basic level a "Free Draw Day" It depends on what tools they are using or not, but they usually continue the current project that they are working on. If they are using tools that I feel would be unsafe for the substitute to regulate, then it is a "free Draw" day. Most of the advanced students are so independant that they just work as if I was not there, and that is cool. As long as the substitute is able to get everyone working on art related stuff, then that is fine.
