Hello Robin,
I know this response is late but there's always next year-I suggest "Gulf
Stream"
(Black man in disabled sailboat encircled by sharks) Homer stated in
frustration
to critics (loose quote) that "the water spout missed & he was rescued by the
ship"
Write stories about how he got in such dire straits - relate to "Old Man & The
Sea"
He did lots of water colors of outdoors men - Bahaman natives - cutely
pictures like "Snap That The Whip" -- "Breezing Up" a good book -- easy to
find is Time Life's The World of Winslow Homer however The book has only a
portion of "Gulf Stream" in it. You might consult your HS art teacher There
is a chapter in a book - I think its "Art Talk" Dedicatedto "Gulf Stream"
called "Let's Get Lost In A Painting" My 2cnd graders are fascinated by sharks
- You could also do a Picture Story - Scene by scene Comic strip approach --
that tells the story they imagine. Endless Possibilities w/this approach-
Good Luck --Bill
