Dear California Teachers,

As art teachers we are not immune from the political process.
I hope you are aware of the propositions 226 and 227 on the ballot this
June. 226 is basically meant to keep any union such as the California
Teachers Association out of politics. No corporation has to get permission
from individual stockholders each year, every year to spend a dime on
political action.

CTA have fought long and hard for smaller class size, repairing classrooms,
and passing bonds to build new classrooms with our dues. They have been our
watchdog in Sacramento to improve education for all in this state not just
for the few.

The credentials we must have to teach,
The number of days we teach,
the number of minutes in each day we teach,
the number of students we teach,
the curriculum we teach,
the rules and regulations that we must follow,
our retirement, STRS,
the classrooms we teach in,

all of the above and much more are voted UP OR DOWN,
IN OR OUT in Sacramento, Washington D.C. and at your local level.

If we are not actively working to improve this system,
someone else will do it FOR US or TO US.

And they are waiting for Prop. 226 to pass to do just that.
Your future in education will be touched by this vote, have no doubt.
Vouchers and protecting HMOs are the agenda of one of the two big "out of
state" backers. This is part of a national right wing movement.

Check out the websites. Just put in "Prop 226" or "Prop 227" in your browser.

You need to seek out your unions reps and help in any way you can.

June 2nd will be here soon.
