There is no easy definition art can be in any medium. As i try to
explain to our students who confuse expressive art with straight craft
skills. To be free to express oneself in any medium, one needs to
have an ease with the skills of any craft.. painting is a craft in
the same way that skill with clay is a craft.
One needs craftsmanship to enable the expression to flow. Many people
however are quite satisfied in being able to produce the craft
aspect. They then use the word "create" as in "Look what I have
created(made)" A craft skill!
The expressive artist in taking the craft to express a personal point of
view is being "creative" ie. using the process to express original thought.
The art part!
Participation in craft is an ancient human endeavour but there have
also been those humans who have taken the craft skills further to
extend human understanding of our world.
