Re: Sun as Art

Dear Cheryl,
I have used the sun as a clay project with 5th graders, using Mexican
art as examples. We used the slab approach and made it sort of like a mask.
Be careful with the rays, as thys can break off easily. I wear a sum
material apron, and jewelry.

I have also done a unit with first graders as an integration unit in their
science class. I used flourescent crayons and cut paper to create the sun.
We added crepe paper streamers like a wind sock. They had learned a sun
song in music and we went outside and had a "sun dance" and sang the song.
It was great fun. I should remember to do it again this year.
