I agree wholeheartedly with Eileen on all accounts...another option is to ask
a local archaeology club or university class to conduct a "dig" at your
school. Have a load of dirt brought in (it may already contain some
interesting things!) and "plant" artifacts the evening before the kids learn
about the site. Go for broke ...have the pro's teach the kids how to measure
and create quadrants (math!) and assign sections for kids to examine ...it
was a real hit at our school...and a huge PR event as well...art history was
never quite the same!
ps...I LOVE the Annotated Mona Lisa!
