An Invitation:

The North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts and
Plaza Resolana in Santa Fe are co-sponsoring "Tres Culturas and
the Visual Language of Art," a seminar for educators and others
interested in using the visual arts to understand and explore
diversity. Tres Culturas will provide indepth experiences with
the three dominant cultures in New Mexico: Pueblo Indian,
Hispanic, and Anglo.

Tres Culturas will be held at Plaza Resolana in Santa Fe (3
blocks from the plaza) from July 22-28, 1996 (Monday evening til
the next weekend Sunday morning). The fee of $420
includes room and board, entrance fees, educational materials, and
transportation for field trips. The fee for commuters (those who
have other places to stay in Santa Fe) is $250 and includes lunch
every day. Both of the sponsors are non-profit - we try to keep
the costs low and just cover expenses (since this is an educational
seminar, participants who itemize their taxes can deduct the
cost as an educational expense). We will be in Santa Fe at the
height of the tourist season (lots of musical and theatrical
events will be taking place during this time, and the weather
is absolutely wonderful).

Transportation to and from Santa Fe is the
responsibility of the participants (Southwest Airlines often
offers "friends fly free" fares).

I have been leading this seminar and another at Ghost Ranch for
three years, and I try to offer new activities each time for
repeat participants. We have some very special jaunts planned
for this summer. I was able to get reservations for us to tour
Georgia O'Keeffe's house in Abiqui (it only opened for tours
this last year and is usually completely booked) and we have
been invited by sculptor Jesus Moroles to visit his new open air
exhibition and performance space in Cerillos (just south of
Santa Fe). We will also have guided tours of the museums in
Santa Fe, guest speakers, and hands-on activities (such as a
Hispanic tinsmith).

The deadline for registration is June 22. Please call Plaza
Resolana at 1/800/821-5145 for reservations or information. You
may also contact me for further information.

Hoping to see you in Santa Fe,

Nancy
