Independent study works great here in Grand Rapids MI. We use it for
special situations like the students you mentioned. The students work
IN MY ROOM during the hour they can work which means they have to give
up an elective class (which is no problem if they are committed).
Work can be done at home but progress should be shown weekly. I feel
the journaling is ok but I like for them to show their work. The
students who are in I.S. are inspirations to Art 1 or Art 2 students.
I arrive at school at 6:15 so these students might schedule am or pm
"O" hour classes (no-I do not get payed for this) but mostly select an
elective hour.
