Some years ago I rember a Kindergarten child asking for permission to use
pencil and eraser on a drawing because of the need to avoid making any
mistakes. Big surprise then and now it abounds except so many do feel
that their drawings are inadequate.

My hypotheses: Adults who do not understand the what and why of
children's imagery; children's growing awareness of imagery in the world
around them; fear of failure and ridicule by classmates and others; all
of the things we do to make them into little adults from high expectation
sports involvements to the way we dress them. All of which combine in
some psychological way to deny them the joy of an unfettered childhood in
which they ought to be able to be what they really are------and that is,
of course, KIDS!
