There was a book thet I once looked through and it had all this
work from un-educated artists, artists who chose materials from wherever.
It's now labled outsider art.The work is very good and if the kids could see
that you can make great stuff from cheap stuff/free stuff would be beneficial.
The fact that they are not from the art world or the art school mah/
gives the work a raw, magic, earthy and in some cases eccentric look/way
of looking. These artists are truly inspiring without difficult theory
......I don't remember the book ,it was more specific than outider art..
Sounds very challenging......Getting the students to find material
at home with specific qualities and propr/properties .....symbolic
,mysterious,poetic,banal,trashy,odd,rare, rich,etc....might be an idea
