I have a Canon Powershot A620 that I got a little over a year ago - love the
camera, but will never buy another Canon due to the worst customer service
I've ever seen. I also have a Fujifilm S700 that I bought to tide me over
while my Canon was in the shop - I paid about $300 for it and it is awesome.
It is an SLR, with white balance features, shake settings, landscape
features, panoramic capabilites, and several other features I haven't tried
yet. Before you buy a camera look at consumer reports as well as go to the
store and hold them. I always like to see what the camera feels like before
purchasing it. If you spend about $300 on a good camera you can get extra
memory cards, rechargeable batteries (I wouldn't get a camera that has to be
taken out of action in order to charge it), and a good carrying case.
