Re: [teacherartexchange] Docent Training and Thoughts on Retirement

Date: Tue May 24 2005 - 02:19:42 PDT

I could not agree with you more, Woody. We had to get rid of a teacher this
year who was too "touchy" with the kids. They complained and an investigation
was mounted. It got worse before it was over. The sad thing is that a
background check was done. But there were no warning flags out there. Now you know
that he did not begin this behavior this past year. So somewhere someone
dropped the ball. Well, he wont' work as a teacher again. A police report was
filed and notice was sent to the state department. If anyone does even a cursory
check, he will not pass. Our children and even adults who attend our schools,
visit our museums, or otherwise participate in public activities need to
know that they are safe from predators. I am sorry to say that he was my fellow
art teacher. I witnessed some of the behavior and immediately filed a report.
One of the saddest days of my life.
