What a lovely idea, Kathryn. As someone who had cancer surgery, I can
tell you that cards and hand-made little crafts really picked up my spirit.
If this teacher has some recording equipment handy (cassette tape recorder,
VCR) perhaps the kids can record their voices or even create a play where
they dress up as artists in period costume and wish him a speedy recovery.
