Being my first year teaching elementary art, I noticed that my four fifth
grade classes weren't interested in creative projects using paint or other
materials. The last 4 projects have been still life using nothing but pencil. They
love it. The first was a stuffed animal, bowling pin, and soccer ball. The
second was a lunch size brown paper bag that they could change in any way.
The third was a scissor with their own backgrounds. All the three assignments
were observation. The last was to pick something of your choice from your desk
or to draw a backpack. I would think that these might be booring but this is
what they love. I'd appreciate hearing from other elementary school teachers
who might have some insight into this. Thanks.
