I take a watercolor class each week and here is something we have done that
everyone enjoys.

Take a sheet of Masa paper (a certain type of Oriental/rice paper) and get it
wet and
gently crumple it. Open it up carefully and start painting on it--we did
flowers and animals. The crackling creates almost a batik effect and some
interesting color mixtures result. The Masa paper is not that expensive, either.
