Christine Besack had asked some questions about Christine Sumner Lyman's art
program. (Featured as a Gret Site for June)
Sumner- Lyman, Christine. Art work K thru six and Art Studio. Donnelly
Elementary Schools and Senior High for the Susquehanna Valley CSD in
Conklin, NY

I suspected Christine would miss the post so I forwarded the questions on to
her. Here are her answers in case others are curious.

From Christine Besack:

Your projects and site are just wonderful !
I am revamping my curriculum over the Summer and can't wait to get started!
A few questions (inquiring minds want to know ):

Did you make up your own curriculum or do you have a text ?

>> I made up my own curriculum. I select based on giving students in each
grade level a progressive experience in their materials and methods, based
on dbae/artists/cultures. New York State Art Teachers Association has just
published a written curriculum. I submitted my elementray curriculum to them
and am credited for it in the index. My curriculum is standards based. I
have also found Culture Smart, Art Smart, and Davis Adventures in Art series
and slides to be helpful. I love the internet for references. I also love
Dover publications for their great, cheap postcard and sticker sets for
references !

How often do you see your students, (one school ??)

>>High school -every day, 40 minutes, all year. Elementary- once a week, 50
minutes, all year

Do you have a kiln or use only air dry clay?
>> kiln.

Do you have computers or internet access in your classroom ?
>>computer in my art room- no internet access- I do all that at home on
mine. We do have a computer lab at school w/ internet but I never have time
to go there.

Do you have an end of the year art show ? (your school only or district wide
? )
>>for both elementry and hs
Where (how) do you store your work while in progress (or waiting to be
>>I have an old magazine storage rack in my storage closet. And a shelf rack
w/ 7 shelves. Of course by art show time there are boxes of saved work
stacked all over the room !!!

Many of Christine's projects will be shown on Incredible Art Department on
the "ideas" pages that are in the works. Many have commented on Christine's
site (on all three lists that I posted it). Christine Besack - I hope
Incredible Art Department can be of some help to you....Let me know what
your are looking for so I know where to begin.
