Depends on the grade level and the emphasis.

Sixth grade has three short essay and six fill-in-the-blank questions
(elements and principlesl).

Seventh grade has a take-home essay, critiquing a painting never discussed
before in art class.

Eighth graders chose their own painting to critique.

have usually structured my tests with 1/2 multiple, t/f, matching, fillin
blanks; 1/4 drawing eval. and ; 1/4 essay. How do you format your semester

In the past our administration has wanted essay/written part of the overall
test.
