Re: job offer as itinerant teacher

Date: Fri May 31 2002 - 04:57:39 PDT

This position sounds like someone's bright idea to cut the budget. One
teacher for too many kids.
40 classes a week does sound impossible. I currently do 27 classes a week,
40 minutes each. This is very exhausting. You must account for travel time
also , I do two schools that are within a half mile of each other.
Our possible max at the elementary level with 40 minutes each is 7 in a
given day. I have never(in 9 years) been maxed out in all 5 days.
Also take into consideration that you will have to do displays, grades for
that many kids and prep time to get lessons and spaces ready.
Is this a new position ?? or did the previous person run screaming from
the building ?? :)
Perhaps they would reconsider a rotation where you see the kids on a 7 day
schedule.(art every week and a half or so ...)
Not to mention the fact that that budget sounds really really unrealistic.
Ask them to send you a copy of the schedule, and really really think hard
aout how difficult this would be !!!
If I had to say thumbs up or thumbs down, it would be down.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me off the list,
Sincerely , Christine Besack :)
