Woody--so sorry to hear about your loss of files. I know how awful that
is!! Last year, just before school started, I was trying to install a
removeable hard drive (the type that fits into one of the bays) in order to
back things up. During the installation (which should have been rather
simple) a wrong choice was made and I wound up losing everything on my main
hard drive. It was awful and more than a little ironic! :-(
My website was okay in that everything that I'd uploaded to the server was
still there--I just had to download the whole business back onto my
computer--but most of my lesson plans and other files were gone. Thank
goodness I'd put most of my genealogy info on a few zip disks....still lost
some of it though (10+ years of research....)
BUT following that disaster and once the new hard drive was properly
installed, I've been a fanatic about backing up stuff. Everything goes on
the second hard drive and for files that I really, really want to keep, I
also put them on floppies and/or on zip disks.
I hope you're able to salvage some of your stuff--and use your ftp program
in reverse to retrieve pics and html files from the server for your website.
It's a pain to do, but at least it should still be there....
(I, of course, lost my ftp program in the process and had to reinstall that,
