Last week I was E-mailed by a person who said "Do you know what is going on
at your website. I was not aware of any problems and went to it and found
that the kid that was my webmaster had put something up himself. It was a
section on the A.P. art show that my kids did themselves at our open house
show May 2nd. In the area were pictures and comments by him that were
stupid, crass, put downs and even ethnic slurs. To make matters worse, he
had a kink at the bottom that went to his own site with a section on the
school and was making fun of other students.
I was absolutely livid and talked to him the next day and told him to take it
off and how dare he do this to a site for the school and not tell me, etc.,
etc. He did and I thought we were fine. He is never going to gain my trust
and we have severed any good relationship we had before.
Yesterday I was talking with a friend and said Look here at our website and
when I went there it was gone, just adds and caught in a loop. I talked to
the student again and he informed me that the administration for the site
server had seen our problem and yanked the site dumping all information. I
have nothing from this year unless he can get it off his computer which he
now tells me is fried and he doesn't have a backup.
What have I learned?… You can't trust students even if you think you know
them. I should know better, but he was a great art student and I thought we
had a good relationship. They can get drunk with power and go off on their
own. I need to make my own site and work it myself. A lesson learned and
hopefully I can retrieve my info for another site.
