Re: Favorite project of year

This isn't really a project, but today was so awesome i want to share it with
you guys. I took my senior studio and AP studio kids out on an all day "sense
of place" field trip. Each of my 10 students chose a place in our city that
they find especially inspirational or motivating, told me about it, then we
just traveled from spot to spot all day. In each place, the student who chose
it gave a short explanation about their impressions of this place and any
other personal info they wanted to include. At every stop, each student
created small sketches, into a composite, on a single piece of Bristol board.
By the end of the day they each had a visual record of all the places.
Tomorrow we will add watercolor to them. We watched the PBS Art 21 segment
about Place yesterday, as an anticipatory set vehicle. WOW! am I lucky! it
was an incredible day. We went to parks, people's back yards, a vintage
theater, an art supply store, walked around and looked at buildings.... an
aesthetic field trip. The kids will never forget it!
