I did not have a project that I just loved...however....my favorite lesson
this year was a 4th grade lesson about Calder. Students watched a video
about Calder and his circus act/sculptures. Then they created their own
wire/found object circus sculptures. They were fantastic! I guess I really
did like them! I also am really enjoying a collage/relief sculpture lesson
with my 4th graders. After reading "Picasso and the Girl with the Ponytail"
the students were asked to draw 2 self-portraits. One with colored pencil,
the second with their choice of drawing medium....marker, pastel, oil crayon,
regular pencil. Then they had to cut up the 2 portraits to make one collage
portrait. I really like the results. Now they will have to do a bas-relief
sculputure of the collage. This will be hung in our school office during
their 5th grade year....then they will take them home at the end of 5th
grade.
I love the 4th grade....it seems all my most interesting lessons happen with
them! One of my 4th grades also made tree houses...they were really fun!
