Dear People,

This is not related to Art Ed - but my access to this listserve -- this is the
only listserve to which I subscribe, so I am wondering if anyone else on this
list is having these issues. My Mac is acting strangely (bounces out of programs
like Netscape) and I want to fix it myself if possible. My Norton utilities has
told me I have damaged resource forks...Does anyone on this list know what this
means? It reads: "A major error was found in the file listed below, the alias
files are damaged (15, 1, 3) Norton disk doctor is unable to fix this problem.
Hard drive System folder: Preferences: Norton Application Aliases: Volume
Recover..."

I would like to try to fix this myself because I have paid some computer experts
quite a bit recently for the same problem -- also when my computer comes on --
the screen is blank for about 20 seconds, then goes to a blank gray screen, then
finally after a time you get the "happy mac" face and then color screen -- I have
heard of hitting PREM on the keyboard at "start up" or "shut down," but it hasn't
had any effect -- any other ideas?

Someone on this list said that the e-mail that has come with the title "We Feel
your pain" is a hoax -- Unfortunately I opened it - but didn't go farther than a
quick scan...didn't open the attachment -- whoever said it was a hoax, i am
wondering what sort of hoax and whether or not that could be having an effect of
dismantling information in my computer -- any advice?

By the way, because of some of the inspiring words on this list, I have decided
to take some tech classes this summer to become more sophisticated about all of
this Mac stuff -- I am tired of being a Mac illiterate even though I use this
computer many hours a day.

Any advice would help -- with all of the end of the year projects coming up -- I
need my Mac!

Best wishes,

Carmela
