RECENTLY, SOMEONE CALLED US CHEAP!
IT’S NOT EVERY DAY YOU GET
A COMPLIMENT LIKE THAT!
RESTON, VA—NAEA President Mac Arthur Goodwin wanted to know how NAEA's
convention pre- registration fees compared with other subject area
associations for attending a national convention. He asked Executive
Director, Thomas Hatfield to call several subject area associations to survey
their convention fees for 2002. Upon seeing the results Hatfield concluded,
"our members are getting the best bang for the buck; the fees are very
competitive, actually, among the lowest!
"We try to stay competitive." said Hatfield, "NAEA has raised convention
fees 3 times in the last decade and a half. Last year, NAEA offered over 950
sessions and events to attend and provided 208 exhibitor booths for members
to visit. Few of the other associations offer that volume for such low fees."
Results of the phone survey were for regular members at the
pre-registration level and were actual rates for a national convention in
2002. The fees for teacher subject area associations are:
COMPARATIVE STUDY OF SELECTED SUBJECT AREA ASSOCIATIONS
CONVENTION REGISTRATION FEES FOR 2002
(Member fees only)
National Association of Biology Teachers $115
National Council of Teacher of Mathematics $95
Music Educators National Conference $145
Future Homemakers of America $100
International Technology Education Association $130
National Business Education Association $130
National Dance Education Association $255
"Even though there are other associations we could have surveyed, I think
this provides a glimpse of the value NAEA members get for our fees. NAEA
fees ($95) are among the lowest and have been over the last decade," said
Goodwin. "It is one of the 70 member benefits the Association provides."
