OK - I ma officially off as of today - but need to run
back to the art room to clean up - at least today and
tomorrow;P But since I was home - I wanted to read my
daily addiction - the ArtsEdNet - and I wanted to respond
to some of the posts:
First - Think of us:
Graduation was very moving. The parents and the brother
of the student that was killed were seated in the front
during the entire ceremony. The father went up and
received his son's diploma. They were very courageous - I
could not have sat through the whole graduation if my
child had passed without sobbing hysterically. Your
thoughts and prayers have sustained us all. Thank you.
PhotoJam:
WOW! I loved it and I hope to get some things together
this summer so you all (Y'all) can see what we have
worked on this year.
Pay it forward:
Someone mentioned the movie, but I had heard this phrase
over the years. Be a ripple in the pond - Pay it forward.
What we do can have far reaching effects. Pay it forward.
We can make a difference without knowing it and without
leaving where we are. Pay it forward. Just think if we
all just did this 2 times (in the movie it is to be 3
times per person) - we could create a new kind of change.
Pay it forward.
Shoes:
I love this lesson. I used to do this with my sculpture
class and miss this lesson after seeing yours! I used to
have the kids roll a slab first and then step on it - it
make indentations for the sole of their soon to be
constructed shoe. For some reason I would get a lot of
Doc Marten shoes and athletic shoes. I love the art
history aspect to your lesson, too:)
Plaster and finger puppets:
Wipe some vaseline wherever you are going to apply
plaster or plastercraft. Plaster should never be applied
directly to the skin. It can cause burns!
Unfinished work:
I do give partial credit - at least they attempted part
of the lesson. And what they have learned may be used
somewhere else in their work later on.
Posts and Readers:
I am amazed by JDECKER, WOODY, BUNKY, and so many others
on this list that always provide answers or give helpful
hints and directives and of course web pages to help us
all out. Or those that ask a question and then we all
benefit in some way. I don't think anyone needs to
explain the craziness that exists in many of our lives
that prevent us from responding or jumping in - which may
be a good thing - because there were many days I barely
had time to scan the digest (didn't someone have over
5000 messages?!?) as it was.
And to be quite honest - I am amazed at the number of
readers out there - in my naive vivan world - I thought
that those that posted were pretty much it and never
pondered that so many would be reading the posts! I think
that is awesome in how many do read the posts and
benefit. And if we need to say THANK YOU - this is from
me - THANK YOU!!!! for all that contribute - you have
made my classroom a better place and I have learned so
much from you. But that was the point of posting - to
learn and help - and thank you is just a by product - so
all - PAY IT FORWARD!
Let's move on:)
Peace y'all!
Vivian
PS Sharon - I hope you are doing better - my prayers are
with you.
PS2 Hi Sky and Gabrielle and Mark and Dennis (new doors
open) and artnsoul and iteachart and BJ and Larry and
Susans (2) and Carolyn and Christa and ALL ArtsEdNetters
that have made my year and that I feel like I know from
reading your posts *L*?
Gotta run and CLEAN the art room....
