Gail,
I understand completely about lack of in-service time for the
specialists teachers. One of my duties as lead art teacher in the
district is to plan four 1/2 day inservices (beginning of each quarter)
for the district art staff. Now they want to take away our beginning
of the year inservice. We need time together to share and learn.
Each building staff has 2 1/2 hours "every" Wednesday to train or discuss
new ideas (early release). I'm hoping to get permission to pull art
teachers out on a few of those days to learn new techniques.
But after school classes need to be an important part of the mix.
I took a year long Internet in instruction class to get my computer skills
developed. The district did cover the cost (funded by a grant) we had
to cover tuition cost if we wanted credit but it was only $300 for
six grad hours.
How does everyone else's district do it ? Provide training time ?
