I consider student displays an extension of the art lesson. i will often
take classes on "field trips" to critic other students work and learn from
it. I often see students in the hall discussion their work with a parent or
other grown up. My students are very comfortable discussing their own and
others' work. I think displaying student work is a very, very important part
of the art curriculum. Also I often add a little diadactic explaination for
those who just don't "get it". It helps educate parents and staff. It
takes the work beyond "a pretty picture" to help the adults understand the
higher level thinking involved in creating art.
