This is a freshman boy phenomenon. Once they were "showing off" their
creations in front of the girls, and after I dealt with them, some girls
asked me "Why do they DO that?" I replied it's basic male
insecurity--if they lose the one god gave them, they'll have a spare.
The girls cracked up and left feeling quite superior.
More seriously though, if I get a complaint that the boys are "showing
off," threatening or chasing the girls with their spares, or leaving
them in a girl's classroom locker or on her chair, I haul the boys into
the hallway and let them know in no uncertain terms that that
constitutes sexual harassment, and the next incident goes to the v.p.
and the parents (theirs and the girls' parents). I tell them they will
get to explain to the parents exactly WHAT they were doing and WHY.
That ends it!
