I teach elementary art and I use a medium thickness armature wire which
can be made into any shape very easily.

We also make stabiles. For this we make the armature into a question mark
to start off. The students save milk cartons from the lunchroom. We cut
the tops off the cartons and pour plaster into them. The students put the
bottom end of the ? into the plaster and press beads, buttons, sequins,
rocks, shells, (you name it!) into the plaster as it hardens. We use
mobile wire and crochet cotton to hang items from the armature and we
decorate the base with paints after we peel away the milk carton

I have also used a staple gun to staple wire sculptures onto wood scraps I
got from a clock factory.

I love wire sculptures as much as the kids!!
