Firing clay with newspaper armature

A kiln manufacturer's representative told me that this practice shortens
the life of the elements in the kiln. The ashand smoke from the newspaper
form a hard coating on the elements that cause them to become brittle and
break sooner.

Also, think of your own health. If you as the teacher stay in the room
all day breathing the fumes and smoke your own health is compromised.

Remove that newspaper before firing!
