At least two years
then you will always feel overwhelmed
Everyone told me it would take at least 2 years to get though the daily
stuff, and that it did.
Now, after 8 years, I have the daily stuff down, but the demands have grown
and grown and I never feel like I have time to myself that thoughts of
school are not lurking in the background.
I think it is the nature of what we teach.
It is our habit to be constantly searching and looking for new ways to
present. There is nothing concrete about our curriculum and we constantly
look for better ways to give lessons.
And
we are very creative people that are not satisfied with presenting the same
lesson all the time.
What keeps us from burning out is that we can actually see the "light bulbs"
go off.
We can see those amazing moments when creation takes place. And we strive
and sacrifice to give those moments.
No matter what we think, art is still at the bottom of regards for most
districts. It seems to me that art instruction is still such an unrecognized
necessity for life skills. Is that not where most of our angst comes from?
We don't have text books to follow, we don't have worksheets to zerox copy
and hand out, we spend our time creating these things.
And
Math Science, English, and Social Studies NEVER have to justify their
existence --- but I do
constantly
To all of you out there that give your all
every day
and constantly search for better ways to give your all
my regards to you
