Thank you Bunki. I felt uncomfortable about the response I got to my
original letter. I wrote out exactly what you just said and then hit the X
by mistake and lost my work. I sometimes get angry with an occasional
student and say....."am I the only one who cares about your work? Am I the
only one who cares about your grade". I'll tell you a story about Tom. He
got a low B from me first marking period. Remember I teach HS. I found out
that he is an honors student and my work kept him off both honor rolls. His
mom understood. I spoke to Tom and explained how important his intelligence
was to his work and that he was being intimidated and wasn't trying hard
enough. He then asked for help and came after school and guess what? His
grade went way up. I put his work in the hall. He was so proud. Yes....we
can make a difference. Eileen
