In Newport News public schools (in VA), the number of teacher contract days
is 193 and the students go 180. We report to school the entire week before
the students come back. Now, most of that week is filled with meetings and
inservices; however, we get at least one full day to work. At the end of the
school year, the teachers report the day after the students finish to work in
rooms, complete grades, etc. Of course, it is written into our contracts, so
no extra pay :(
