I am getting ready to order unglazed tiles for a community mural I am going to create (I discussed this on the list a few months ago, but just got financial approval this week). I am wanting to have all students, staff, faculty, and as many community members as I can get create a tile. My idea is that they will create a tile that reflects their part in our community. We have a HUGE ranching population, and if I want to have any chance of getting these ranchers to create a tile I need it to be as easy as possible (I'm thinking maybe they will put their brands on their tile). I had planned on using acrylic and covering with polyurethane to create a high gloss, but paintbrushes will probably deter these ranchers. Would paint pens work? I have never created tiles this way, but I want it to be bright, and I have heard that the underglaze crayons/pencils do not create the brightness and may be cost prohibitive. Has anyone done this (with the paint pens)?
