I think in the case of A&E...it may have been a confidence and presumption of themselves being important, and that the prestige of students submitting work to them is payment and honor enough.

My suggestion when I wrote to them, was to include an "option" for students to submit a fee and a re-useable shipping crate, if they wanted their works returned. This fee could support handling,
shipping, etc; In this way...those that don't mind not getting their work returned have no problem; those wanting to have their works returned are placated and found content. It actually could have
led into another lesson on how one protects their work in shipping from the carelessness of UPS. ...to that end, I have other horror stories- 8^)
