Hi Cindy - while I'm not sure what Getty will use to define rural, the
general consensus amongst us was if you feel the need "to go somewhere else"
to eat out, shop, etc. instead of going to whatever you have in your own
town. If a large majority of your children graduate and leave for bigger and
better, etc. Some communities represented had towns of 5000+. My own
students live 10 miles from an art museum and 40 miles from a large city,
but our town is 2 x 4 blocks long! I'm not sure how they will go about
distributing the money if Getty approves the grant. I know they will find
several businesses and corporations to help back this endevor. I assume that
anyone wanting money will then write a mini-grant. I will definately keep
the list up-to-date on this grant. Money set aside just for art - can you
believe it!
