Ellen Hall wrote a little while ago to tell us about a project that
sounded very promising regarding public art and student reflections on its
meaning, effects, etc. I was disappointed to hear that the exercise was
unsuccessful. Ellen says that she may not have given her students enough
time to work on it. But, maybe there are other problems with this sort of
assignment that we can try to anticipate and counter. Any ideas out
there? Or experiences you'd like to share about successful and
unsuccessful projects similar to this one in which students are invited to
think about art philosophically?
