I wonder if you mean coffee grounds used as grog to lighten the clay?

Grass clippings, rice hulls, or coffee grounds can be used; 10% to 20% by
weight is acceptable.
Mica granules used for home insulation can be added to the clay up to 10%.
This additive reduces shrinking and warping, does not burn out during firing
and leaves gold flecks in the clay.
One or two percent of chopped nylon fibers added to clay makes it very strong
and builds paper thin walls. Not suitable for throwing though.
