Spring greetings to my fellow Art colleagues,

Over the short break we are about to embark upon (Friday through Monday)
I must plan short units in Art that will coincide with a field trip our
entire school will take on April 19th to the Omnimax theater at the
Pittsburgh Science Center. I understand from the docents there that the
film the students will be seeing is entitled "Seven Facinating Places in
the World" and the rainforest, the Namib desert, Madagascar and Tibet will
be highlighted. I thought the film would be more interesting and more
meaningful to the students if, in Art, we did something to punch up the
visuals of the movie. Tibet is difficult for us but I remembered Tibetan
prayer flags. I've surfed the net and have found a little bit on these
flags but any suggestions, other ideas would be greatly appreciated. My
student population is 5 years-21 years old, all mentally retarded. There
are 250 students here and I thought it might be beautiful to look out on
the school garden to see these prayer flags flying. My students range in
abilities, but the average skill level is approximately second grade.
Naturally, there are some students who are multi-handicapped and
profoundly retarded so the project must be modifyable.

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to give.
